One of the strategic goals for the ICE/Internet2 Collaboration is – Embrace Standards to Support Research.

A Caries Classification Standard, written by the Caries Working Group, has been accepted by the Collaboration Advisory Board. In order to support caries research, a single method of entering the caries classification standard for use in all collaborating institutions is required. In order to improve oral health, caries classification needs to be placed in the context of a risk-based caries management framework, that needs to align with other components to promote overall health.

The Advisory Board charges that an working committee made up of representatives one from each of the Advisory Board member dental schools (Universities at Buffalo, Michigan, North Carolina and Pittsburgh) and a representative from the International Caries Detection and Assessment System Foundation (ICDAS) agree upon

It is the responsibility of the committee to determine working methods (minutes, report format, etc.) and leadership. An initial chair is suggested by the Advisory Board, Margherita Fontana, to convene the first committee meeting.

The committee is requested to submit to the Advisory Board a recommendation that a majority of the members agree upon for adoption. The Advisory Board will resolve any technical issues that might arise.

We request that quarterly updates are made to the Advisory Board through that institution’s Advisory Board representative and that final recommendations be made by December 31, 2016.

Approved September 27, 2016 by the Collaboration Advisory Board.
